1 winter squash
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Cut squash in half lengthwise. Scoop out seeds and stringy sections.
Place squash halves cut side up on baking sheet (such as an old jellyroll pan).
Brush squash pulp with butter. Drizzle with maple syrup.
Place sausage(s) lengthwise in center of cut squash. (It need not be defrosted.)
Lightly brush butter over sausage.
Bake until squash is tender (about 1 hour, depending upon size of squash, although 1 hour has always worked fine for me).
Poster's Notes:
This is a very flexible recipe. When unexpected guests drop by right after the timer goes off, I just turn off the oven and keep it inside (today, for 2 hours!), and it has always been just fine.
