Split Pea Soup, Odetta's (P, TNT)

Serves: 6

1 lb. green split peas washed well and drained
6 cups water
7 tbsp. soy oil (don't use less than 7 tbsp.)
--I am going to use granolas
3 large peeled garlic cloves
1 teaspoon turmeric
2 teaspoons hot paprika
2 teaspoons cumin
2 teaspoons salt

In a saucepan put all the ingredients and bring to a boil on high heat. Reduce heat and continue to cook uncover for 1 hour--on the dot.

With a hand blender, or with potato puree tool mash the peas, and continue to cook for another 5 minutes. Take off the stove.

Serve lukewarm, and sprinkle some more soy oil.
