Split Pea Soup w/Meat (M, TNT)
Source: From a bag of peas
Serves: 6

1 package (16-oz.) dried split peas
flanken or smoked turkey, to taste
3 qt. water
1 large onion, finely chopped
2 chicken bouillon cubes or 2 tbsp. instant chicken soup mix
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. oregano
1/4 to 1/2 tsp. pepper
1 bay leaf
1-1/2 cups thinly sliced carrots
1 cup chopped celery

In a large deep pot, combine peas, water, meat, onion, chicken bouillon, and seasonings. Simmer uncovered 1-1/2 hours.

Remove the meat, trim it from the bones and return it to the pot.

Stir in carrots and celery. Simmer uncovered an additional 2 hours, or until soup reaches desired thickness.

Poster's Notes:
I just use the recipe that came on the bag of peas. I either leave out the ham (that came in the recipe) for a kosher pareve soup or if I want a fleishig soup, replace it with some flanken or a piece of smoked turkey.
