1 medium onion
Sauté the onion in the butter until light brown.
Cut the potatoes into small cubes and rinse off the starch. Add to pot. Add the milk and enough water to cover the potatoes. Add salt and pepper. Cook for about 20 minutes until the potatoes are soft.
Just prior to serving warm up the potatoes, turn off the heat, add the sour cream and mix until smooth.

My grandmother was from Poland and arrived in the US in 1920. She made a delicious milchig potato soup that I now make for my family. Very simple to make.
