1/2 head cabbage
Boil the water in a large soup pot and add the tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste. Bring all of this to boil.
Grate the cabbage and onion (takes seconds in the processor) and add the the boiling liquid. Add the sugar and lemon juice and pepper. Cover and simmer on low heat for 2-1/2 hours. Add salt to taste.

2-1/2 quarts boiling water
1 28-ounce can tomatoes
1 8-ounce can tomato sauce
1 6-ounce can tomato paste
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons lemon juice
salt and pepper to taste
More sugar may be added to taste; I added another 1/4 cup!
