3 cups water
Bring the water to a boil. Stir in all the other ingredients.
Pour into a casserole dish and bake, covered, at 350°F for 35 to 40 minutes. Do not uncover for five minutes after removing from the oven.

1/2 tsp. turmeric or 1/8 tsp. saffron
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1/4 tsp. ground mustard powder
Dash of cayenne pepper
1 tsp. salt
3 tsp. sugar
1-1/2 cups long grain rice
This is one of our favorite recipes! I use brown rice, which might require longer baking time. Also, I often omit the sugar or use just a pinch. This recipe comes from a dear friend, Sara, who we met when we lived in Charleston, SC. A most impressive cook!
