1/4 cup soy sauce
Mix all ingredients except water and lentils in a pot. Add water and stir. Add lentils and bring to a boil. Cover and simmer for 1-1/2 hours.
Turn off the stove and let stand for 15 minutes. Uncover and remove bay leaf. Stir gently. Serve hot or cold. This recipe freezes well.

3/4 cup oil
3/4 cup honey
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
1 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. ginger
4 cups water
3 cups lentils, rinsed
