In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine water, sugar, and cinnamon stick. Bring to a boil to dissolve sugar, lower heat to medium, and add cranberries. Cook until water reduces to a syrupy consistency and berries just begin to pop.
Let stand until cooled, about 10 minutes. Serve warm as a garnish.
