8" or 9" pie shell, unbaked*
*I use a short pastry made of flour, vegetable shortening, salt, and ice water. Any pie shell is fine.
Preheat oven to 450°F.
Spread the nuts over the bottom of the shell. Beat the eggs, add sugar, syrup, salt, vanilla and melted margarine or butter. Pour filling over pecans.
Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, then reduce the heat to 350°F and bake for 35 minutes longer. Should be well set.

1/2 cup sugar
1 cup dark corn syrup (I used light because it was what I had on hand)
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
