Lattice Gates (D, TNT)
Source: from the "Beth Am Temple Cookbook" by Honey Shankman
Yield: Depends upon how large you cut them: 12 or 24 seems about right to me.

1 cup butter
3 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
Grated rind of 1 lemon
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt
2 egg yolks
1/2 cup thick sour cream
1 cup preserves (any flavor but seedless is best)
Powdered sugar

Mix as for pie crust. Add sugar, baking soda and lemon rind. Make a well in mixture and add egg yolks and sour cream. Mix thoroughly.

Roll out 2/3 dough and put into 9"x12" pan. Spread preserves over top. Cut thin strips and put over top with remaining 1/3 of dough.

Bake 30 to 40 minutes at 350°F. Cut into squares while still warm. Sift powdered sugar over top.

Poster's Notes:
Mrs. Shankman was a close friend of my mom's. Sadly she is not with us, but at least we still have some of her recipes to remember her by. She was an amazing cook! [By the way, this is exactly how the recipe is written in the cookbook.]
