Apfel Im Shlaffrock (Apples In A Blanket) (D/P, TNT)
Source: Ruth Lessing
Serves: 4 or 6

2 cups flour
1 stick + 1 tbsp. butter or margarine (125 grams)
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
4 or 6 small apples (washed and cored)
4 to 6 tsp. sugar
butter or margarine for dish

In food processor bring flour, sugar, and butter; mix until resembles fine crumbs.

Add the egg, mix until it become a ball; don't overmix. (If dough is very soft, put it in the refrigerator and cool for 10-15 minutes.)

On a floured board roll a square or a rectangle and cut 4 or 6 equal squares. Put in each square, washed and cored, 4 or 6 small apples. You don't have to peel them. Fill with 1 tsp. sugar and into it put a small piece of butter. Pick up the 4 corners and close them together to cover the apple.

Put in a well buttered Pyrex dish, sprinkle with some sugar on top, and bake in preheated 350°F for about 40-50 minutes.

You can bake the same with adding 1 cup of water + 1/2 cup sugar.

Poster's Notes:
This recipe came to me over nearly 42 years. It is a very old German recipe, and it is made with "Murbe Teigh" dough, which means a kind of biscuits dough that you use for pies. You can bake it as a dry small cakes, or with some syrup, it is up to you.
