Gefilte Fish, Semi-Homemade (P, KLP, TNT)
Source: Lady demonstrator at the Kosher Kingdom supermarket here in Aventura, Fla
Yield: approximately 12 balls

Gefilte Fish:
1 frozen loaf prepared gefilte fish, either with or without sugar, defrosted
1 egg, beaten
1 carrot, minced
1 onion, minced
Matzo meal

Stock:
2 or 3 carrots, chopped
1 onion, chopped
1 garlic
1 green pepper, chopped
Parsley
Dill
Water

Make Fish:
Do not squeeze out the moisture in the defrosted fish. Rather, add sufficient matzo meal to make a light, fluffy mixture.

Add the carrot and onion and make balls (should be approximately 12).

Prepare the Stock:
Bring to a boil, cook for 20 minutes.

Add gefilte fish balls to simmering stock, cover. and simmer for 1-1/2 hours. Taste, if the fish is not yet rid of its fishy taste, continue cooking.

Poster's Notes:
You can add fish bones if you have them.

I do make the frozen gefilte fish and have found that it is necessary to cook the fish for at least 1-1/2 hours to remove any "fishy taste." Here is the recipe that was given to me by the lady demonstrator at the Kosher Kingdom supermarket here in Aventura, FL who was preparing it and giving out samples.
