Crisp, Apple II (D, TNT)
Source: My sister
Yield: 1 pie pan

Filling:
6 medium tart apples
1/4 cup water
2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Topping:
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2/3 cup flour
5 tbsp. butter (room temperature)
1/4 tsp. salt

Pare and thinly slice apples. Place in shallow baking dish. Mix together the water and lemon juice and pour over apples. Combine the sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg and sprinkle over apples.

Mix together the topping ingredients.

Sprinkle over the the apples covering completely. Press down with the back of a spoon, then press down (hard) with hands (this will make the crust very crispy).

Bake 50 minutes 350°F or until bubbly and dark golden brown.

Serve warm or at room temperature with vanilla ice cream.

Poster's Notes:
Any leftovers are absolutely wonderful cold--straight from the fridge (when cold the crust becomes very hard and is just wonderful). If there are any leftovers, my sons eat the crust first.

I always double the topping to make it extra thick. The whole recipe can be very easily doubled with the same wonderful results.
