Poster's Notes:
My father recently found my grandmother's recipe for her mandelbread, written out by her. I made it for him a few weeks ago when he was visiting, and he really enjoyed this taste of history (my grandmother died 2-1/2 years ago and stopped baking at least 8 years before that). It turns out that as my father recalls, this is also her recipe for her chocolate chip cookies--she just added "more fat." She'd roll the cookies out and then use a cookie cutter for the cookies (always in the shapes of hearts, spades, clubs and diamonds).
