1/2 cup sugar
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease 8" square pan.
Beat sugar, margarine and vanilla on medium until fluffy. Add flour, cocoa and salt, and beat on low.
Spread half of batter in pan. Sprinkle chips and nuts even on top. Drop rest of batter by teaspoon over chips.
Bake 20 to 22 minutes. Remove pan to rack and cut brownies into 16 squares.
