Begaleh Maluach (Keachim) (P, TNT)
Source: Hannah
Yield: 4 dozen

4 cups flour
200g margarine
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. of mahlab (cherry stone pits) ground in a coffee grinder
About 3/4 cup water
1 pack (14g) baking powder
Yolk for egg wash
Sesame, ketzah (black sesame), kosher salt, or za'atar to be sprinkled on top of the rings.

Prepare the dough with all the ingredients. Shape into a long rope, then divide in smaller pieces. Form the rings. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sesame or other and bake until golden-brown.

Mahlab is available at the shuk in Israel, and in Greek groceries in US and Europe.

Poster's Notes:
Hannah was a wonderful lady who worked many years as a volunteer in our clinic, she used to bring homemade keachim for the coffee break. Much better than Abadi, I can assure you!
