4 cups flour
Prepare the dough with all the ingredients. Shape into a long rope, then divide in smaller pieces. Form the rings. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sesame or other and bake until golden-brown.
Mahlab is available at the shuk in Israel, and in Greek groceries in US and Europe.

200g margarine
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. of mahlab (cherry stone pits) ground in a coffee grinder
About 3/4 cup water
1 pack (14g) baking powder
Yolk for egg wash
Sesame, ketzah (black sesame), kosher salt, or za'atar to be sprinkled on top of the rings.
