2 cups sugar
Boil first 3 ingredients until syrup cracks when tested in cold water.
Remove from heat and add baking soda. Beat briskly and pour over popped corn.

This is the one my mother used to make when we were kids. I am copying it exactly as it appears in the "People's Home Library" - a book that was my grandfather's - printed about 1909. Haven't made it in years, but we sure thought it was good.
