1-1/3 cup warm water
If you have a bread machine, put the ingredients in the pan in the order listed in your manual. Run the dough cycle plus an additional 30 minutes.
Punch down and shape into challahs. Let rise 30 minutes or more, until double in bulk.
Brush with egg wash, or not, it's your choice. Bake at 350°F for approximately 20 minutes.
If you don't have a bread machine, follow instructions for any other bread.

Nutritional Info Per Serving: N/A
1/4 cup oil
1/3 cup sugar
1 egg
2 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups white bread flour
2 tsp. salt
2-1/2. tsp yeast
This is how I make it and it's a light, wonderfully tasty challah. I also make the same recipe but divide the dough into 16 to make nice-sized rolls that are great for hamburgers or for breakfast with butter and a drop of honey.
