Unstuffed Cabbage w/Sauerkraut I (M, KLP, TNT)

3 small cans tomato sauce
3-3/4 cans water
1 cup sugar
1 large can of sauerkraut, drained and rinsed
3 pounds chopped meat
2 eggs
1 large onion
Dash pepper
Bread crumbs or matzo meal
1/4 cup raw rice (optional)
1/2 cup raisins

Simmer the tomato sauce, water, and sugar for 15 minutes.

Prepare the remainder of ingredients, except for sauerkraut and raisins and shape into meatballs. Add the sauerkraut and meatballs to the simmering mixture. Cook for 1 hour. Add the raisins and cook an additional half hour.

Poster's Notes:
I sometimes add chopped stewed tomatoes to the recipe for a more authentic flavor.
