1 pound ground beef
Sauté the ground beef and onions together. Add seasonings while sautéing to help flavor the meat. Pour off any excess fat (I use a very low-fat grind of beef, so don't end up with any fat to toss).
When the beef is evenly browned, add the beer or wine to deglaze the pan. Boil until almost gone, stirring, then add the broth. Simmer for 10 to 20 minutes. The liquid should evaporate to leave about half the amount of when it was added (about 1 cup). Remove from heat. Stir in sour-cream substitute.
Serve immediately over rice or noodles.
