2 tbsp. vegetable oil
In a large skillet, heat the oil and cook the meat, just until browned, (about 4-5 minutes).
Place in the crockpot, along with the rest of the stuff. Mix well, cover and cook on high until the meat is tender. About 4-6 hours.

2 pounds lean steak cut into 1" chunks
2 cups chopped onions
2 cups carrots cut into 1/2" slices
1 (15 oz.) can tomato sauce (I like the Italian seasoned type)
1/2 cup cider (or white) vinegar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1 tbsp. prepared mustard
1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 tsp. chili powder (I use oregano, chili, lemon peel, and dried onion
2 tsp. paprika
1 tsp. salt (I leave this out)
1 tsp. ground black pepper
I've made this several times, and as I live alone, I freeze the excess.
