Beef Stew w/Apples (M, KLP)

Serves: 6 to 8

3 teaspoons vegetable oil
3 cups chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 lbs. stewing beef, cut into 1" cubes
3-1/4 cups water
1 stick cinnamon
4 whole cloves
1 tsp. paprika
3/4 tsp. salt
Black pepper to taste
1/2 cup raisins
3 cups chopped apples

Heat oil in large saucepan, over medium-high heat. Add meat and brown slightly. Add onion and garlic: sauté until onions are soft.

Add water, cinnamon, cloves, paprika, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, 1 hour.
