Herring, Chopped II (P, TNT)
Source: My mother
Serves: 6 to 8

1 jar herring in wine sauce
1 to 2 apples, peeled, cored and quartered
1 piece (end is perfect) stale bread (not rye), torn into quarters (may need more)
1 to 2 hard boiled eggs, halved

Fit food processor with metal blade. Using slotted spoon, dip out herring pieces and onion and put in food processor. Add minimum amounts of apple, bread, and hard boiled egg. Pulse until uniformly ground, but not pasty. Taste and adjust.

This should have a hint of sweetness from the apple, not too dry from the bread, not too sharp from the egg. Should be spreadable on party rye or crackers.

Poster's Notes:
Quantities are inexact, taste and adjust. I got this recipe from my mother, who has made it for years. She used a blender; I use the food processor.
