4 slices Swiss or Gouda cheese, sliced 3/4" to 1" thick
Dip slices in flour, then into the beaten egg. Roll in bread crumbs. Fry quickly in hot oil until golden brown.

1 cup shortening
The recipe doesn't specify, but I would cut the slices into strips about the same width as the thickness.
