Keegels

My aunt makes these and we call them "keegels" as opposed to the big guys, which are kugels.

Back in the days before food processors and one oven in the kitchen, they used to turn a ghastly shade of greenish black. I used to love taking them to school for lunch and eating them room temp; my friends could never figure out how I could eat something that looked so bad. Which was all right with me.

Now that we go away for Pesach and aren't with my aunts family, when my husband goes home once during the week to get the mail and check on the cat (we only go about 1 hour and 15 minutes away) he is required to stop at my aunt's for her keegels and gefilte fish - I have to have my "fix" once a year.

if she only had a recipe...
love the memories
